About us

Life-Long Music Lovers Inspiring the Next Generation

We’ve experienced the impact of early music education and how it can bring joy and passion, we are determined to bring this love of music to others.

Meet your Music Education Guru

Hi! I’m Clara! I’ve done music related things my whole life. I started piano when I was four years old, but I absolutely hated it. It was just an every day chore. It wasn’t until I entered middle school that through a carefully structured vocal program, I discovered there was so much more to music than just reading the page and pressing notes!

It was like a whole world opened up to me. Music used to be black and white, and now I was seeing in technicolor! From that point on, I realized that I wanted to be a teacher, so I can help students understand the enjoy music the way I do! And hopefully from a younger age too!

After graduating from Berklee College of Music with a major in Music Education, I taught in k-12 public and private schools (whilst concurrently teaching online private lessons.) Highlights include: sending students to perform at Carnegie Hall, writing curriculum for Juilliard through Nord Anglia’s Juilliard Creative Classroom program, and finally, examining for the International Baccalaureate Program. In 2020, I decided to take all that experience and launch my private studio. But then I realized that 1:1 private lessons may not be for every student, especially at that young age. After experimenting with a teaching a few online group classes, I decided to launch The Vocal Gym Kids with Robert, my classmate from middle school!

… And The Mastermind behind Everything Else!

I joined the school choir at the age of 5, and singing became part of my identity as I explored choral, jazz, and pop music. At age 16, I plunged into conducting the school choir to fill a leadership void, and have been teaching and leading ensembles ever since.

I graduated from Brown University in 2017 and explored consulting, F&B operations, and tech, but was always singing, teaching, and directing music on the side. In 2019, I pivoted completely in pursuit of my passion full time – to spread the same joy and fulfillment that I’ve had in music.

Today, I have a private voice studio teaching 1:1 and small group lessons. I also run a cappella programs to broaden access and build community. In 2020, based on philosophies developed through my lifetime in music, I created The Vocal Gym to deliver high-quality singing education in a way that is effective, accessible and fun.
